Steinfurt Eight

The Steinfurter Acht cycle tour takes you on two circular routes around Steinfurt. The cycle tour starts directly at the railway station in Burgsteinfurt and reaches the picturesque Steinfurt Castle after a few turns of the pedals. The gatehouse is one of the most photographed motifs in the region. Shortly afterwards, the route becomes rural and the cycle path winds its way over small hilltops to Horstmar. The town is still characterised by the historic Burgmannshöfe manor houses. A tour of the town with the town hall in the centre is well worthwhile.

The cycle path turns north again and meets the district educational garden on the outskirts of Steinfurt. During a stopover, visitors can find out about fruit trees, perennials and flowers.

The catering facilities around Steinfurt's market square are ideal for refreshments before continuing on. The route continues uphill to Hollicher Mühle. The historic windmill is picturesquely situated on a small ridge.

Accompanied by the gentle landscape, the cycle path leads to Wettringen with its much-used local history centre. The cycle path now leads to Welbergen without any further differences in altitude. Welbergen House is somewhat hidden away and is one of the most beautiful architectural monuments in Münsterland. The magnificent garden in the inner courtyard in particular surprises visitors with its splendid flowers from spring to autumn.

The last section, with its open landscape, offers another relaxing ride before the Steinfurter Acht ends in Burgstein.

Steinfurt-Burgsteinfurt railway station is located directly on the cycle route. The station is served by regional trains from Münster, Gronau and Enschede.

If travelling by car, take the B54 federal road (Gronau-Münster) to the Steinfurt-Burgsteinfurt exit.

The free Baumgarten car park in Horstmarer Straße is ideally located.

The cycle tour is not signposted, but follows the signposted Münsterland junction system.
