Start your tour through the railway underpass - on the other side you will find interesting graffiti on the tower. Then you go past the Spich cemetery onto a car-free and quiet asphalt path that leads you through fields. Although you are driving along the Spicher industrial area, it is wonderfully green here. After the golf course you reach a beautiful race track that takes you to Kriegsdorf - a place with medieval roots and one of the 12 towns in Troisdorf. The cycle path leads along the outskirts of the town to Lake Rotter with a sandy beach and swimming opportunities. We continue on a nice gravel route where you can speed straight ahead, then you switch back to a lonely asphalt path.

Cross the bridge over Kriegsdorfer Straße and drive through a residential area, past the football field. The surrounding area is characterized by wide fields, and you continue through a residential area of Eschmar towards Lake Sieglar. Even though it is not a swimming lake, the lake is ideal for watching and observing animals. Take a short break here by the idyllic water to enjoy nature and the water birds. The lake has two breeding islands for numerous bird species.

We continue on the cycle path along the Sieg, where you ride on a gravel route over a dam towards Siegburg. After so much "Sieg" it's time to "geagger": At the Aggerwehr you leave the Sieg and follow the Agger along the Agger-Sülz cycle path through the Aggerauen. If you like, you can take a break at the Aggerwehr - a popular place on the river with a swimming area. Then we continue past the Aggua indoor and outdoor swimming pool. The cycle path leads on a gravel path over the dam, with a beautiful view of the floodplain meadows and isolated trees. Here you can drive straight ahead in a relaxed manner.

At the Aggerstadion you turn into the forest. After a few hundred meters you have your first visual contact with the Wahner Heide, with its sandy paths and heather. There are opportunities for breaks and seating on old tree trunks. The gravel path leads through the forest closer and closer to the Agger, and the river always flashes through the trees. After a few kilometers the path branches off and you follow a piece of the Sülz. From here the “Flughafenstrasse” takes you to the village of Altenrath, where a beer garden invites you to stop off.

A somewhat bumpy asphalt path now leads straight through the Altenrather Bachtal with some ponds. This is followed by a forest path to the Mühlheim ponds, where you can admire water lilies at the right time of year. The field path “Pflaumenweg” then leads you out of the forest into an open landscape with meadows and pasture fences, through an agricultural area with smaller farms. Finally you reach the “Turmhof” heath center, where an ecological show garden as well as coffee and cake await you (note opening times).

The Pestalozzi Trail takes you back to the silence of the forest. After the calamus pond you immerse yourself in the typical heath landscape, with sandy open areas and gorse. With a bit of luck you will see donkeys and goats grazing here. The path leads through heath and pastureland past the ghost bush, and the views from Busenberg are among the highlights. At the edge of the forest you will also find a water buffalo pasture. After another forest passage you will reach Altenrath again, where you can make a short stop at the Romanesque pillar basilica. Finally, an old tank road (with a parallel accessible trail) leads you to the Fliegeberg. From here you drive on the “Eisenweg” (an old trade connection to Siegerland) through a beautiful section of heath. A little later you will be greeted by a sparse pine forest. At the end there is a great descent to Spich. A short distance through a residential area and you are back at the train station.

Please stay on the paths, the heath has been an artillery training range since 1817 and was used as a training area by Belgian troops after the Second World War. The areas away from the marked paths are considered so-called explosive ordnance areas; entering them poses a high risk to life and limb and is therefore prohibited.
