Circular route through Legden-Asbeck

The Asbeck sculpture route, also known as the "SKULPTOURA", offers a harmonious combination of art, culture and nature in the Münsterland region. Over a distance of approx. 3.5 kilometres, the circular route leads through the historic monastery village of Asbeck and presents both cultural sights and changing sculptures by contemporary artists. The trail leads past the abbey mill, technical monuments, former stations of the cross and historic wayside shrines. The trail also offers charming views of the surrounding nature, including the "Dicke Linde" natural monument, orchards and flower strips. The route invites you to take a relaxing walk that combines art and nature in a pleasant way.

The SKULPTOURA runs for around 3.5 kilometres through picturesque Asbeck and combines art, history and nature. The route offers numerous sights and impressive sculptures. The most important stops at a glance:

  1. Village pond
    Starting point of the route with the sculptures Long Double Nudes and Two Pieces as well as the memorial to the victims of war.

  2. Knight Bruno
    A historical figure symbolising the medieval history of Asbeck.

  3. Thick lime tree
    An impressive natural monument with the way-station Veronica with the sweat cloth.

  4. Haus Asbeck and Schandpfahl
    Historical ambience with reference to jurisprudence and cultural history.

5th-6th Changing sculptures
Two locations that offer artists space for temporary exhibitions.

The circular route ends back at the village pond and invites you to enjoy a relaxed exploration of art, nature and history.

Arrival by car:

  • From the south/north: via the A31 motorway (Legden - Ahaus exit) and the B474. Follow the signs from the centre of Legden.
    • From the south/Dülmen: via the A43 motorway to Dülmen and the B474. Follow the signs from the centre of Legden.
  • From Münster: via B54 to Altenberge, then from L579 to Schöppingen, via K64 and K61 to Asbeck.

Travelling by train:

  • Railway line Dortmund - Enschede, get off at Legden station.
  • Münster - Gronau railway line, get off at Legden station.
  • Distance from Legden station to Asbeck Abbey: approx. 6 kilometres. The journey time by bike is about 20 minutes.

Travelling by bus:

  • Express bus S70: Münster - Vreden, get off at Schöppingen. Continue by taxi bus to Asbeck (call the operator beforehand)

There is a car park near the monastery. There are also car parks in the surrounding streets.
