Details

Stage 6 of the Hohe Mark CycleRoute invites you to explore the stork country and offers impressive insights into the flora and fauna. The route starts in Haltern am See and heads south out of the town. The course of the River Lippe, which approaches and leaves the cycle route several times, provides varied views. The longest river in Westphalia provides a diverse habitat for numerous animal species on water and on land. Quiet spots on the banks invite you to linger.

The route continues to the Hervester Bruch nature reserve, which provides an impressive introduction to nature. The area around the Wienbach stream is home to numerous rare and protected bird and animal species. In addition to the unique landscape, the Heck cattle that live there in large herds attract particular attention and characterise the area in a characteristic way. The stage ends in Dorsten-Hervest.

This stage of the cycle tour can be easily reached by train via Haltern am See station. Trains from Bochum, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen, Münster, Osnabrück, Recklinghausen and Wuppertal stop here. The start of the signposted Hohe Mark cycle route is only approx. 300 metres away at junction 74.

By car, take the A43 motorway (Wuppertal-Münster) to the Haltern am See exit. From there, follow the B58 motorway in the direction of Haltern am See. Follow the B58 through the town in the direction of Lüdinghausen until you reach the car park.

There are car parks in Haltern am See, Hullerner Straße 40.

For the return journey from the stage destination in Dorsten, you can use the "Hallenbad" bus stop near the car parks.

The Hohe Mark cycle route is signposted throughout.

It is part of the junction system and can be recognised by the red/white signage. At intersections, arrow or destination signposts guide you in the right direction. Cyclists will also find the Hohe Mark RadRoute logo with the green bicycle here. Where the cycle paths only lead in one direction, there are regular rectangular intermediate signposts.
