Pröbstingsee
Stage 10 offers numerous opportunities for picnic breaks, relaxing views and exciting soundscapes. The start is in Bocholt. After a short cycle path, the Aa-See lake appears with a natural swimming pool in the northern section. It has excellent water quality, a green sunbathing lawn and a beautiful sandy beach.
The cycle tour leads along the lake and on through the outskirts of Bocholt to the city forest. The city forest is home to various animals such as fallow deer, red deer and wild boar in a forest and meadow enclosure. For younger guests, there is a petting enclosure with goats and sheep. Exotic animals such as flamingos and cranes can also be spotted by the water.
From the city forest, the route continues eastwards across fields and meadows. This is where you will find the Bürgerpark Rhede. The multi-generational park has benches, sun loungers, play tables, wildflower meadows, bee-friendly shrubs and a fruit tree meadow. The adjoining Old Cemetery is not only a resting place with impressive memorial stones and mausoleums, but also a place for flora and fauna.
The route continues northwards to the Burlo-Vardingholter Venn nature reserve. We recommend parking your bike here and marvelling at the biodiversity of the estimated 4,500-year-old fens in the moorland area.
The route continues in a southerly direction. After a few kilometres by bike, you can take a break at Lake Pröbsting. The idyllic lake in Borken-Hoxfeld is known for its old trees and sheltered islands. At the end of stage 10, you can take a short exploratory tour along the lake.
If you would like to add a little extra to the tour, you can also visit the following places:
