Cycle tour around Lüdinghausen

On the 52-kilometre cycle tour, the Stever between Lüdinghausen, Olfen and Haltern am See reveals its many different facets. As a young river around the castles in Lüdinghausen, as a source of water for the Hullerner reservoir and as a natural paradise in the Stever floodplains near Olfen.

The cycle tour is complemented by the Lüdinghausen and Vischering castles, which are well worth a visit and delight visitors with their historic walls.

The cycle tour starts near Vischering Castle at junction 99 and should be preceded by a tour around the castle. A few minutes later, Lüdinghausen Castle greets you with its imposing sandstone walls. The cycle route leaves Lüdinghausen in a southerly direction and then turns off towards Seppenrade. The ascent at the entrance to the town is quickly forgotten during a walk through the rose garden.

Over the next few kilometres, the Münsterland shows its rural side. Passing fields and meadows, the cycle tour reaches the forests around the Hullerner dam. It's hard to believe that this is the dammed Stever.

On the south side of the lake, the cycle tour continues to Olfen. The wild and romantic landscape of the Stever floodplain with its numerous animal inhabitants awaits cyclists here. A visit to the nature park centre provides lots of information about the flora, fauna and history of the river.

Between Olfen and Lüdinghausen, the landscape is once again characterised by fields and meadows, and the cycle route reaches Lüdinghausen with its beautiful old town with virtually no inclines.

At Vischering Castle, a visit to the museum and coffee and cake in the castle café round off the cycle tour.

Arrival by car via the A43, A52 or A1 motorways. From there, follow the B58 federal road (Haltern am See - Ascheberg) to Lüdinghausen. In Lüdinghausen, follow the signs to Vischering Castle.

Travelling by train via Lüdinghausen station. The station is served by trains from Coesfeld, Dortmund, Enschede and Gronau.

From Münster, Lüdinghausen can be reached quickly via the express bus lines S90 and X90.

Free parking is available at Vischering Castle. Further car parks are signposted in the city area.

The cycle route is not signposted separately, but follows the junction system in Münsterland throughout.
