The approximately 30-kilometre circular tour "Monastery, canal and cliffs" leads through the varied landscape to the west and south of Ibbenbüren. It starts in the centre of Ibbenbüren. From there, you first cycle along the idyllic Ibbenbürener Aa river on a flat, tarmac cycle path towards Gravenhorst Monastery.

The route then continues to the so-called "wet triangle", the striking waterway junction of the Dortmund-Ems Canal and the Mittelland Canal. The cycle path now follows the Dortmund-Ems Canal in a southerly direction. This section offers sweeping views of the western Teutoburg Forest and invites you to take a break at the nearby Loismann Botanical Gardens and NaturaGart Park.

The more challenging part of the tour begins north of Dörenthe. The route crosses the Teutoburg Forest on a moderate but longer ascent. At the hikers' car park on the main road 219, you have the opportunity to plan a short hike to the Dörenthe cliffs - spectacular sandstone formations with panoramic views of the Münsterland region.

After visiting the cliffs, the route leads past the Ibbenbüren summer toboggan run, then down through wooded terrain and back to the starting point. The route combines nature experiences, historical buildings and waterways - a recommended circular tour for all those who want to discover the Münsterland actively and culturally.
