Connecting path between Landhotel HermannsHöhe and Asbeck

The hike begins at the Hotel-Restaurant Hermannshöhe in Legden. From there, the trail first leads to the Halingort refuge - a nice place for a first short stop with a wide view over fields and meadows. The surroundings of the farming community of Halingort are typically Münsterland, with well-tended farms and an open, cultivated landscape.

The route continues along quiet paths with a charming view of the striking Asbeck church, whose tower can be seen from afar. The trail now approaches the historic town centre, where the Asbeck Abbey Mill invites you to linger. The neighbouring mill pond with its seating is ideal for an extended break in a natural setting.

The parish church of St Margareta is just a few steps away. As a former collegiate church, it combines Romanesque and Gothic architecture to create an impressive overall impression. The "Hunnenporte" gatehouse and the adjoining granaries in the centre of the village are impressive witnesses to the monastery's past.

The final point of the walk is the Asbeck Dormitory. The former dormitory of the nuns is an architectural gem and rounds off the cultural and historical walk through the region in style.

By car:

• Coming from the A31 motorway
• Take exit 32-Legden/Ahaus
• Continue on the B474 in the direction of Legden
• Follow the road for about 5 kilometres to the destination

By public transport:

• Coming from the Münster (Westf.) local and long-distance railway station
• Take RE 42 in the direction of Wanne-Eickel; change trains in Dülmen
• Continue with RB 51 in the direction of Enschede
• Get off at Legden station
• Start the cycle tour from here or walk 8 minutes to the Legden, Brüggemann stop
• Continue with bus 781 in the direction of Coesfeld
• Get off at the Hermannshöhe stop
