The start is at junction 80 at the market in Mettingen, near the Michaelbrunnen fountain. The route leads through the tranquil Köllbach valley, past streams and wooded sections towards Laggenbeck. There the ascent begins over the gentle ridges of the Schafberg - a section with charming views of the surrounding hilly landscape.

In Ibbenbüren, you pass the Aasee recreational area, which offers a chance to take a break in a natural setting with its open lake landscape and the neighbouring "ibbgoesbeach" beach club. The route continues along the River Aa through the urban area to the Catholic Ludwigkirche church, where a signpost leads to the city centre.

The tour continues via Püsselbüren and the Dickenberg before turning back towards Mettingen shortly before Steinbeck. On the Dickenberg, the heaped-up spoil tip offers impressive panoramic views over the Münsterland and the North German Plain - a striking vantage point and quiet highlight of the route. The return route then follows rural paths to the starting point in Mettingen.
