Dreimühlenweg (Three mill path)

This beautiful circular trail leads through the varied landscape of the Volcanic Eifel. Past quarries and along various small streams and rivulets, you come to the highlight of the circular tour: the growing waterfall Dreimühlen. In the summer months it serves as a refreshment and in winter with its hanging icicles as a photo motif!

The Dreimühlen waterfall is fed by the Mühlenbach stream. When the Dümpelfeld-Lissendorf railway line was built at the beginning of the 20th century, the three headwaters of the Mühlenbach were combined and channelled under the railway. Since then, a ledge has grown at the point where the artificial stream passes the step, over which the water falls into the valley and flows into the Ahbach a few metres further on. Over a width of about 12 m, the chalky, cold water falls about 4 to 6 m deep to the Ahbach, causing an annual increase of about 10 cm.  It is named after the neighbouring ruin Dreimühlen.

The small hilltop castle was built in the 13th century and destroyed in the 15th century. Today, only the remains of a quarry stone wall are left.
