The wastewater from the city of Paderborn is treated in the Paderborn wastewater treatment plant before it is discharged into the River Lippe.

The city of Paderborn's wastewater treatment plant has been in operation since 1981. It receives an average of over 40 million liters of wastewater per day - that's around 270,000 bathtub fillings - "produced" by the approximately 200,000 inhabitants of Paderborn and the surrounding area. Purification takes place in three stages in order to break down impurities such as nitrogen, carbon and phosphorus compounds. The purified water is finally discharged into the River Lippe. The most striking buildings at the sewage treatment plant are the two 40-metre-high digestion towers and the wind turbine on the site, which can often be seen from afar.

In addition, motorhomers can empty their waste water and fill up their fresh water free of charge during the opening hours of the sewage treatment plant. Further information: www.steb-paderborn.de
