The Ölbach floodplain behind the cemetery, between the old village mill and the Zum Meierhof road, is a small natural paradise.
A walkway runs for around 500 meters along the renaturalized stream, which meanders through naturally grown greenery and provides a home for birds, insects and fish. With various play and climbing facilities, the area is also a natural place for children in particular to play and learn about the element of water.
In the course of the renaturation, a side arm of the Ölbach stream was created. During heavy rainfall events, this reduces the flow velocity so that the groundwater can accumulate instead of being carried away by the river. This also significantly increases the storage volume. The measures are intended to help meet the current challenges of drought and heavy rainfall events.
The renaturalized Ölbach floodplain is designed in the sense of extensive water maintenance. This means that nature is largely left to its own devices. Maintenance measures are reduced to the bare minimum - for example when tree trunks obstruct the watercourse. Among other things, this should allow amphibians to settle, insects to find breeding grounds and the fish population to increase.
Time will tell how well local recreation and the environment get along. Those responsible want nature to remain an experience, but also to be respected and protected by users.
