Tourist attractions – various

Five medieval towers of the city fortifications are still preserved today. The strongest is the Diebesturm (formerly: Geuturm) with walls up to 2.20 m thick. It was built between 1326 and 1433. It has an inner diameter of 5.70 m, is 16 m high and houses the wedding room of the registry office on its 4 floors, which is why it is also called the "Love Tower" today.

Visit

Visits to the Diebesturm are only possible from the outside.

History

From 1815 to 1908, the Diebesturm was the official city prison. The city archives have records in which the history of the former prison can be read. Lifelong prisoners" were also imprisoned in the Diebesturm.

In 1990, the marriage room of the registry office was set up in the Diebesturm. Thus the Diebesturm developed into a tower of love. This gave the tower its most beautiful purpose.

So not much has changed in the use of the tower. "Lifelong" is still available in the Diebesturm today, but instead of the heavy chains, tender ties are put on today.
