From July 18 to 20, the Alter Markt in Wattenscheid will be transformed into a beach & street food festival. In cooperation with JUST Festivals, Bochum Marketing has planned a concentrated festival experience: At least twelve food trucks with specialties from all over the world, beach volleyball, party and music are on the packed program.
The Beach & Streetfood Festival will officially open on Friday, July 18, at 5 p.m. as part of Bochum's sports year. The salsa band Latino Total will accompany the evening musically until 10 pm. On Saturday, things get sporty on the Alter Markt. A beach volleyball tournament starts at 12:30 p.m. and is open to anyone aged 14 and over. A maximum of twelve teams with four players each will be admitted. Anyone who is unable to put together a full team can still apply and - if possible - will be assigned to a team. To apply, simply send an email with the subject "Sportjahr Bochum", name and age to kontakt@just-festivals.de. The application process starts immediately. Attractive prizes await the winning teams of the tournament. Following the tournament from around 6 pm, DJ Byrush (house, charts) until 7:30 pm and the band Color FX (rock and pop covers) until 10 pm will be setting the mood in Wattenscheid.
Free play on Sunday
On Sunday, July 20, the action starts at 12 noon. The beach volleyball court will be open for free play from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., accompanied by presenter and DJ Marko Holtwick. In addition, Wattenscheid stakeholders and the Wattenscheid City Management are planning various other activities at and around the festival. Among other things, the shop windows in Wattenscheid's city center will be given a sporty look in July. Interested businesses can contact City Manager Margarita Koumoutsi by mid-June by e-mail at: koumoutsi@bochum-marketing.de. A high-quality prize worth 250 euros will be awarded among the participants.
Food trucks from all over the world
A wide range of culinary delights can also be discovered on all three days: At least twelve food trucks will be set up around the beach volleyball court for the entire festival. There will be something for every taste, from pulled beef sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks and hamburgers to tacos, arepas, empanadas and quesadillas, Ghanaian specialties, Jamaican jerk chicken and steaks from the USA. For the sweet tooth, there are crêpes, milkshakes and poffertjes, small pancakes. Drinks, whether café, cocktail or soft drink, are also provided.
