Die Lesende - the reader

“Die Lesende” (“the reader”) sits opposite the Mayersche Buchhandlung bookshop in Aachen.

Wolf Ritz created the bronze sculpture in 1985 to mark the opening of “Treffpunkt Taschenbuch”, which is part of the Mayersche Buchhandlung bookshop. The bronze figure is of a woman sitting on a stone base, who is engrossed in a book she has open in front of her. Through this work, the German sculptor aimed to attract attention to the need for engagement with spiritual values.
