Monument

The new Corvey Gate was a visible sign of Corvey's growing claim to power

The town wall has blocked the old Hellweg branch to Corvey since the 12th century. It was only after the Prince-Bishop of Münster Christoph Bernhard v. Galen, known as Bomben-Bernd, as Administrator of Corvey (1661-78) wrested independence from the town in 1674 that the town wall was broken down again.

In place of the original gate on today's railway embankment on the Weser, the New Corvey Gate was built on this site in 1716, through which pilgrims and travellers reached Corvey via Corveyer Allee. The pillars on both sides of the road symbolise the location of the town gate.
