Frühherrenhaus

Rusty red stone house

Directly opposite St. Johanniskirche is the old, rust-red Frühherrenhaus with its high three-tiered gable. It was built in 1591 as the deanery building of St. Dionysius Abbey. Until 1810, the beautiful Renaissance house was the home and workplace of many deans and their families. Today it serves as a parish hall for the parish of Herford-Mitte. The later submarine commander Otto Weddigen was born here in 1882, which is why the Frühherrenhaus is also known as the Weddigenhaus.
