Aggertalhöhle (Agger valley cave)

The smaller of two caves in Ründeroth, but the one that can be visited at all. The cave is located directly on the "Cave Trail", the Bergischer Streifzug with the number 14, which starts at the railway station in Ründeroth. 

With a total length of 1071 metres, the Aggertal Cave is the longest cave in the Rhineland. The total height difference in the cave is 31 metres. It is located in a reef limestone train of the Hobräcker layers, which is geologically assigned to the lower Middle Devonian.

The tour route itself has a length of 270 metres with a height difference of approx. 10 metres and is easy to walk through. The entrance hall and main corridor are also wheelchair-accessible. The temperature is 6 - 8 degrees all year round.

The Aggertal Cave is open every year from 1 April - 1 November Thursday - Sunday 10:00 - 17:00 and on public holidays. A normal tour lasts approx. 45 - 50 minutes. The first tour starts at 10 am. The other tours start every 75 minutes. There are also opportunities to buy souvenirs as a souvenir.

The Aggertalhöhle can be easily reached with the RB 25. A 3.5 km hiking trail leads from Engelskirchen train station to the cave and there is also a bus service.Here you can find a travel report about a visit to the cave.

Please remember to wear warm clothes, as the temperature in the cave is only 6 to 8 degrees all year round.
