From loom to finished ribbon

This museum, which is officially one of the sites of the Museum Industriekultur Wuppertal, is located the Gold-Zack building in Elberfeld Nordstadt. It showcases a wide variety of exhibits from the weaving and braiding industry over a total of 240 square meters of exhibition space. Until 1960, heavy looms stood here, rattling and clattering to produce the artistically woven ribbons that made the cloth industry of the Bergisches Land famous across the world. Preserved models, such as a genuine ribbon weaving loom from 1907, provide authentic insights into how production worked. 

The combination of old and new looms gives an impression of the technical possibilities and the variety of products. A high point for all visitors is when the devices are set in motion. What a noise! Experience first-hand how the braiding machines make shoelaces, mops, cable insulation and other products.
