History information

Haus Siekmann, formerly Hof Schöckinghoff, was a rural estate whose history goes back to the 14th century. Originally, Schöckinghoff was located in the farming community of Brock outside the town centre and was presumably briefly inhabited by the noble Schocke family, who gave the farm its name. A documentary record shows that the estate passed to Hermann von Hunefeld as early as 1331. Six years later, the Freckenhorst Abbey acquired half of the Schöckinghoff, and from then on a grain rent was paid to the Elisabethaltar in Münster Cathedral for the other half.

The plague that swept through Europe in the Middle Ages and the resulting severe decimation of the population ultimately led to the wall, moat and town gate being moved. The Schöckinghoff and the neighbouring Schulze Tergeist farm fell behind the ramparts. Little is known of the subsequent period, apart from a few changes of ownership.

In 1921, Bernhard Siekmann, the man who gave the estate its name today, acquired it. His grandson ran a hotel in the former farmstead until he sold Haus Siekmann to the town of Sendenhorst in 1992.
