The Dreimühlen waterfall is probably the most interesting waterfall in the Eifel.

It was created from calcium deposits of three carbonate-rich spring tributaries of the Ahbach. During the construction of the railway line in 1912 between Dümpelfeld/Ahr and Jünkerath, the three springs were combined and redirected. Since then, the water has flowed over the terrain edge, with the calcium-rich water releasing carbon dioxide at the splash edge, and the remaining calcium carbonate crusting over the moss that settles there. Such carbonate deposits are called carbonate sinter rocks. Since the construction of the (now decommissioned) railway line, the waterfall has grown over 12 meters.

Due to the constant deposition, the sinter bank is "growing" further into the valley (about 10 cm per year), hence the name "growing waterfall"! Due to its uniqueness, the Dreimühlen waterfall has been declared a natural monument.

The Eifelsteig long-distance hiking trail and the Kalkeifel cycle path pass by the waterfall.

Note: The path to the waterfall is not accessible. It is not possible to take strollers, wheelchairs, etc.
