Storage houses in the Hofviertel
Behind the town houses on the west side of the market square, a series of remarkable storage houses are hidden behind a courtyard. They are up to 500 years old and are predominantly half-timbered. The granaries reach up to five storeys in height.
The warehouses were leant against the retaining wall in front of the terrain step to the upper town. This wall, which stretches from St Mary's Church in the north to Simeonis Church in the south, was built between the 13th and 15th centuries. The top floors of the storehouses at Opferstraße 8 (mid-15th century) and Martinikirchhof 2 (late 15th century) are accessible from Martinikirchhof.
