    Altenhof II workers' housing estate

    The Altenhof II workers' housing estate in Essen-Stadtwald looks almost picturesque. The low plaster buildings with gardens and verandas were built for the former Krupp employees, who were to spend their retirement there in a pleasant atmosphere. The architect Robert Schmohl was inspired by the English garden city movement. Since 1991, the entire estate has been listed as a historic monument.
