Discover the green network of stream valleys and green corridors, the Lutteraue in Milse, the Heck cattle in the Johannisbachaue, the Obersee with its viaduct and Bielefeld's old town!

The route out of the city leads through  Ravensberger Straße with its long avenue of plane trees.

The path along the Lutter and its reservoirs widens into an ever-widening green corridor.

The Hof Meyer zu Heepen, which is surrounded by a moat, used to be one of the largest farms in the Ravensberg region. Today, it is used as a nature reserve.

The Lutteraue landscape conservation area with arable land, pastures and meadows, hedges and small woods, streams and ponds is considered the area with the highest density of breeding birds in Bielefeld and the surrounding area. Partridges, quails, lapwings, red-backed shrikes and nightingales feel at home here.

A herd of Heck cattle graze on the meadows of the Johannisbachaue. The robust animals with their impressive horns can be seen here all year round.

Everyone will find their favorite spot at Obersee. The lake, which was created in 1982, is the main attraction in an 80-hectare green area. Water, cycle and walking paths, restaurants, mini golf, playgrounds and many events guarantee a high recreational value.  

Further along the route, the numerous parks in a row make it possible to travel almost car-free through the city on the Teutoburg Forest. The stream valleys leading down from the Teutoburg Forest and the green corridors form the basic elements of a green network in the Schildesche district. Bielefeld has been implementing this unique idea for more than 100 years, from the first plans of horticultural director Paul Meyerkamp to the present day. Parks and natural green spaces run through the city like a network and connect the residential areas with the surrounding landscapes such as the Teutoburg Forest, Johannisbachaue and Obersee.

From the SchücoArena, you can see the nine slender arches of the entrance façade of the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle to the south of the route. The listed concert hall is located directly next to the Bürgerpark, a modern city park with a café and playground.

In the north-eastern part of the Bürgerpark - opposite the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle - stands a moose sculpture: how many children have wanted to sit on the moose's back and marvel at the world from above?

The spacious Sculpture Park of the Kunsthalle Bielefeld offers the best conditions for an inspiring break in the open air. Stroll between the sculptures by Olafur Eliasson, Sol LeWitt, Henry Moore, Thomas Schütte and others or linger by the water basin!

 Individual stores, street cafés and green oases make up the charm of the old town. On the Old Market, the very rare, magnificent antler tree with its large pinnate leaves creates an almost tropical atmosphere. From the Alter Markt, it is only a few meters to the start and finish point of the "Green Network" route at the tourist information office in the New Town Hall.
