The local history hiking trail through the Hövelhof forest offers plenty of variety: meadows, old forest cultures, dunes, insights into history. Take your time and enjoy the impressions of this landscape.

Through the Hövelhof forest

Away from the noise and stress of everyday life, Hövelhof offers ideal conditions for relaxation and recreation. The varied landscape is perfect for wonderful walks and hikes. The local history hiking trail is a themed route focusing on the history of Hövelhof Forest. As a relatively short trail with a length of only six kilometers, it is ideal as a leisurely introduction to the Hövelhof hiking network. But it is also a pleasure for "repeat offenders" due to the different color backdrops of the forest throughout the year!

In combination with the "Historical Hiking Trail", which is the same length (the focus here is on the historical features of the Senne municipality in the town center), you will quickly get to know and love Hövelhof!

And after your hiking tour? Conviviality, lively tradition and first-class ambience - Hövelhof has a taste for variety. Westphalia has long been known for its rustic gastronomic specialties. From the quaint pub on the corner to the modern luxury hotel - Hövelhof offers a wide range of gastronomy. Typical Senna hospitality invites you to linger. You are welcome everywhere!

icon-info Details

We walk in a northerly direction on the so-called Russenpatt parallel to the Bielefelder Straße (L756). After 200 m, we cross the Holtebach, which winds its way through a marshy alder forest in places. After a further 500 m, we cross the Hallerbach. This has its source on the Senne military training area and flows through the Moosheide Süd nature reserve. Shortly before the Steinweg, we leave the Russenpatt and turn right onto the "Untere Bielefelder Landstraße" and follow this until we reach a meadow. On the banks of the Hallerbach stream and the wetland, the so-called lake, we turn right through a small wood with a biotope. Passing a sawmill, we reach the "Emser Kirchweg"; now 300 m to the left, then right onto the dunes. We walk over a dune into the Hövelhof forest with the former fish pond facilities. On the way to the forester's lodge, past old forestry crops, we cross the Holtebach stream twice more and reach the Friedenseiche oak. Another 500 m and we are back at the starting point.

If you fancy a longer hike, simply join the Historical Hiking Trail. The two 6 km long trails can be perfectly combined.
