Your starting point is right at the hiking car park with a bathing area at the Dreiseler Siegbogen. Climbing the "Umlaufberg" Dreisel will get you going right at the start of your tour. In ancient times, the Sieg flowed around the current Umlaufberg until wind and water had eroded so much soil and rock that a breakthrough formed. The Sieg changed its course to the new bed - the old river course dried up. Once at the top, it is worth taking a short detour to a rest area from which you can overlook the former river loop and the surrounding hills. After a gentle descent, the bleating of sheep and the lonely calls of circling buzzards accompany you in the former river valley. Rare butterfly species such as the Meadow Burnet Blue butterfly find a valuable habitat in the meadows of the oxbow. About halfway along the route you reach the village of Helpenstell and from there turn directly to the opposite slope to walk back towards Dreisel. You walk right along the edge of the forest and enjoy the view of the meadows, which are interspersed with old, overgrown orchards. After a short stretch through Dreisel and a subsequent climb, the Sieg reappears and you follow its course back to the starting point.
