In a wide arc, the eastern course of the 100 Castles Route leads cyclists to the most beautiful historic buildings in the eastern Münsterland.

The eastern course of the 100 Castles Route winds through the middle of some of the most beautiful areas of the Münsterland park landscape. From the hilly landscapes around Beckum to the heart of the horse region around Warendorf to the gates of Münster, countless historical buildings await cyclists. The picturesque Hovestadt Castle, the double castle complex of Harkotten and Rheda Castle are just a few outstanding examples.

If you start in Münster, you join the 100 Castles Route on the banks of the Werse. Surrounded by fields and meadows, the 100 Castles Route turns east towards Ostbevern. Loburg Castle with its beautiful park is the first highlight of the cycle tour. Before the cycle route turns south, cyclists reach the extraordinary Harkotten double castle complex in Sassenberg.

Without major altitude gains, the themed route leads via Warendorf with its picturesque market square to Oelde. Culture lovers can expect two real treats with the Haus Nottbeck cultural estate and Liesborn Abbey. In between, Rheda Castle provides an impressive example of great architecture.

Framed by the green valley of the Lippe River, buildings of the Lippe Renaissance such as Haus Heerfeld, Schloss Hovestadt and Haus Assen line up along the 100 Castles Route. The cycle path reaches its southernmost point here and turns north again. Small undulations characterise the path through the old cement district of Beckum towards Sendenhorst and Everswinkel. Before returning to Münster, Haus Sieckmann and Haus Brückhausen line the cycle path and the wide Münsterland sky.

There are many entry points for a cycle tour on the eastern course of the 100 Castles Route. In the south of the cycle routes, Ahlen offers good train connections, as does Warendorf further north.

Perfectly connected to the German rail network is Münster, which is only a few kilometres from the cycle route.

The A2 motorway provides access for motorists to the southern towns along the route. Oelde and Beckum are in the immediate vicinity of the motorway. Münster can be easily reached by car via the A 43 and A 1 motorways.

The 100 castles route is signposted. The route is integrated as an insertion sign/pictogram in the red and white cycle route signage. The insertion sign is located directly below the destination signposts. The integration into the dense, Münsterland-wide cycle route network makes orientation particularly easy for those unfamiliar with the area. This means that shortcuts or detours can easily be chosen according to individual needs.

The eastern course as a section of the 100 Castles Route does not have its own insertion. If you follow the green castle pictogram, you must make sure that you continue to follow the correct section when you turn off.
