Cycling tour around Warendorf

From the railway station in Warendorf, this cycle tour leads from gate to gate. From the historic cathedral gate, the cycle route describes a 57 km long circular route. In the middle of the Münsterland parkland between Warendorf and Sassenberg, monasteries, castles and farm shops await visitors along the way. A particular highlight is the Harkotten double castle complex.

Warendorf railway station is the ideal starting point for the cycle route. The cycle path leaves the town shortly after the Münstertor gate and heads west. Meadows and fields characterise the gentle landscape for the next few kilometres. Shortly after crossing the Bever, the picturesque Vinnenberg monastery comes into view. The beer garden at the monastery mill is certainly one of the most beautiful resting places along the route.

A few kilometres further on, the cycle tour reaches the Harkotten double castle complex in Sassenberg. While the castle is not open to the public, the Harkotten manor house offers visitors an insight into the impressive coat of arms hall on special occasions.

The path now turns southwards and reaches the Feldmarksee recreation area. When the weather is fine, it is worth taking a dip in the cool water or a short trip on a pedalo.

Just a few pedal strokes further on, Haus Schücking attracts attention. The building by Johann Conrad Schlau is typical of the many little treasures along the way. On the last few metres before arriving in Warendorf, the magnificent Ems floodplains open up. Accompanied by the blue ribbon of the river, the cycle path ends in the town centre.

The journey to the cycle tour can be made comfortably by train. The starting point at Warendorf station can be reached via regional train 67. The railway line connects Münster and Bielefeld and also stops in Gütersloh, Rheda-Wiedenbrock and Telgte.

The station is also served by numerous bus lines. Express buses connect the district town of Warendorf with Münster and Ahlen.

There is a free car park with 112 spaces at Warendorf station. Other parking spaces, for which a fee is charged, are located at Ostwall and around Wilhelmsplatz.

The cycle tour is not signposted separately, but runs entirely along the Münsterland junction network.
