The 10th stage of the "Medebacher Bergweg" quality trail leads from Oberschledorn through fields and forests to the Hanseatic town of Medebach.

On the hike from Oberschledorn to Medebach, we hike up the Spieberg on natural paths, experience the pristine forest area at the Kamenderkreuz and listen in the Kuckuckuhle to see if we can hear the cuckoo's call. Because if you hear the cuckoo calling and have even one coin with you, it is said that you will never be completely without money this year. In the idyllic Hasenkammertal valley, we discover the barefoot and nature trail, which is not just a little adventure for children. At the end of the mountain trail hike, the benches at Lake Weddelsee invite you to relax or we can stop off at one of the restaurants or cafés in the old Hanseatic town and reflect on the impressions of the hike.

icon-info Details
The mountain trail is marked throughout with the "Maltese Cross", the sign of the crusaders.

Wherever possible, we have affixed red stickers with this cross; in the open countryside we have sometimes preferred paint and brushes, where you will find white crosses on a black background.

From Oberschledorn, the Maltese cross first leads us about 500m to the left along the road. We turn right "Zum Brande" uphill and reach a refuge, continuing to follow the Maltese cross, we enter the forest on the Spieberg. We reach the Kamender cross and walk downhill to the left to the Kuckucksuhle. Continue left on the asphalt path, then turn right towards Hasenkammer, cross the motor skills trail, continue left and turn right towards Weddelsee, where we reach the portal sign for the Medebacher Bergweg.

Current information about our forests - The bark beetle and its consequences

The forest owners are endeavoring to take the necessary measures in the forests and to remove the damaged wood. However, due to the extent of the damage, this work cannot be completed in a short space of time. The clearing and reforestation of the damaged forest stands will therefore take a long time and sometimes lead to disruptions such as closures and detour in the forests. This must always be taken into account when visiting the forest.

We therefore appeal to everyone who cares about the forest:

  • Understand that extensive forestry work is necessary in the current situation and that this is currently accompanying your forest experience.

  • Be particularly attentive during your leisure activities and observe the prevailing instructions and any prohibitions
