A cycle tour full of variety and contrast awaits cyclists on the H2 cycle route around Haltern am See. After starting at Haltern am See railway station, the shore of the large reservoir is quickly reached. While surfers and sailors frolic on the water surface in good weather, the first intermediate destination, Stadtmühlenbucht, is already approaching. The town's sailing harbour is a wonderful place to watch the skippers and their boats.

The cycle path leaves the reservoir and heads towards the district of Sythen. A short detour to the castle of the same name is definitely worthwhile. Accompanied by wet meadows, the path meanders around the Silberseen lakes between Haltern am See and Dülmen. The lakes will surprise you with their sandy beaches, which are particularly popular in summer.

At Hausdülmen with its fish ponds, the path turns off towards Wesen. The beautiful Heubach lowlands merge into the Weisse Venn. The remains of this ancient moorland landscape still harbour flora and fauna worthy of protection. The profile of the cycle route now becomes more undulating and beautiful views of the wooded landscape open up again and again. The highest point of the route at Waldbeeren-Berg is 146 metres above sea level.

The cycle tour reaches the town centre of Haltern am See again almost immediately. The catering around the market square is a wonderful place to round off the cycle tour.

For the H2 cycle tour, we recommend travelling by train. The route starts at Haltern am See railway station, where the cycle station is also located. The station is regularly served by trains from Münster, Osnabrück, Düsseldorf and the Ruhr area.

By car, the route takes you via the A 43 motorway (Wuppertal-Münster) and the B 58 trunk road to the town centre. The railway station is signposted in the city centre.

In Haltern am See gibt es zahlreiche ausgeschilderte, zumeist kostenpflichte,  Parkplätze. Der nächste Langzeitparkplatz ist zum Routeneinstieg der Parkplatz P3.

The H2 cycle route is signposted. The route is integrated into the red and white cycle route signage as an insert sign/pictogram. The insert sign is located directly below the destination signposts.

The integration into the dense Münsterland-wide cycle route network makes orientation particularly easy for those unfamiliar with the area. This also makes it easy to choose shortcuts or detours according to individual requirements.
