Birgel Wanderweg LB 1

From the community centre in Birgel, we keep left and walk uphill along the tarred path, following the signs for LB1. We soon turn left and follow the meadow path. At a bend, the sign points straight ahead; we walk uphill on the right along the edge of the forest across the meadow. After about 400 metres, turn left onto a path into the forest and follow it to the viewpoint. The path leads back from Butterley to the edge of the forest. There you can decide whether to walk straight ahead across the meadow or turn right again and walk back to the signpost and continue from there. Meadow paths take you to the K72, along which you walk for about 300 metres before turning left onto a forest path. We follow this until we reach the B421 via the first houses in Gönnersdorf. Please take care when crossing! We follow the pavement over the railway bridge and then turn left and follow the path until we reach Lissendorf railway station. At Lissendorf station, we cross under the railway line and walk along Bahnhofsstrasse back to Birgel and the community centre.

With good preparation, hiking in the Eifel is a lot of fun. Take a rucksack with drinks, provisions and a mobile phone. For your own safety, please always stay on the marked paths and do not leave them.

Sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing for the time of year.

Visit the experience centre of the historic Birgeler watermill.

• Coming from Cologne, take the A1 motorway to the Blankenheim exit (end of the motorway). Continue on the B 51 in the direction of Trier/Bitburg until the Stadtkyll exit. From there, follow the B 421 in the direction of Gerolstein, Daun, Koblenz as far as Birgel (approx. 8 km).
• Coming from Aachen, take the B 258 to Blankenheim. From there, follow the B 51 to Stadtkyll. Here you change to the B 421 in the direction of Gerolstein, Daun, Koblenz to Birgel (approx. 8 km).
• From Trier, take the A 1 / A 48 motorway to the Gerolstein exit. From there, drive to Dreis, then take the B 421 via Hillesheim to Birgel.
• Coming from Koblenz, leave the A 48 at the Vulkaneifel motorway junction onto the A 1 and take the Gerolstein exit. From there, drive to Dreis, then take the B 421 via Hillesheim to Birgel.
