Fortress/Castle Park/gardens

Count Rudolf zur Lippe-Brake (reigned 1692 - 1707) had Schieder Castle built at the beginning of the 18th century (1703 - 1706) and a terraced Baroque garden laid out. The castle was owned by the Lippe princely family until 1918, when the castle and park were transferred to the state of Lippe. During this time, the park was subject to constant change. From 1945 to 1968, the Deutsche Bahn maintained a recreation home for children in the castle. The former baroque garden is now used as a playground. The municipality of Schieder then acquires the castle and castle park.

The castle is now used as an administrative building for the town. The middle floor, the former prince's hall, is now a café with a fantastic view of the baroque garden.

The baroque garden formerly laid out by Count Rudolf zur Lippe-Brake was restored in 2007 according to 18th century plans and officially opened on 16.05.2009. The entire 19-hectare palace park has been designated a garden monument since 1999 and offers an impressive testimony to 300 years of garden history.

An information brochure is available from the Schieder-Schwalenberg Guest and Citizen Information Office, Domäne 3 in the Schieder district and from the Schieder-Schwalenberg Tourist Information Office, Marktstr. 7 in the Schwalenberg district.
